Anyone with a passion for a subject can teach at the Community Learning Center. Instructors are competitively chosen and can be anyone who has a class they think will interest others. KCLC instructors are independent contractors who are hired separately from Kepler College faculty, staff or employees.
The Community Learning Center has no specific guidelines for the courses you may want to offer. We welcome proposals and suggestions for classes at any time throughout the year. We are always interested in offering classes that are in demand or unique. Our goal is to fill every class to capacity and therefore want to offer classes that appeal to a wide range of students and can provide valuable skills. There is also no set length for any course.
Submitting a proposal puts you under no obligation to teach the class. We will evaluate your proposal based on criteria relating to the quality of the proposal, the appeal the class, fit with existing offerings, whether your proposal competes with another class that has already been accepted, etc. We have a non-competition policy so that instructors already teaching a class are not adversely impacted by a new course covering the same material.
Community Learning Center staff will help you establish a general course site for you to upload your materials. Some limited technical assistance will also be provided. New courses will have a two term trial period and may be dropped based on a variety of criteria, including lack of student interest, or more than 40% negative ratings on student evaluations.
Compensation is based solely on enrollment and is 50% of tuition actually received. Students must pay full tuition prior to being allowed to enroll. In general, the maximum enrollment allowed per class is between 30-35 students.
If you would like to offer a class, please fill out the New Course Application. We will contact you shortly upon submittal.
